Who is Canadian Legion Toronto Homes?

We are a Non-Profit organization assisted by the Royal Canadian Legion that provides affordable safe housing for Veterans, Wives, Spouse & Widows. Finchurst is a place they can call home!. We believe everyone should feel safe living here. The complex is run by a volunteer Board of Director’s who are responsible for overseeing the staff , finances and upkeep of the complex.

Is there support staff available ?

• Office – One half time Office Administrator (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. – Telephone: 416-222-9945
• Maintenance – One full time Maintenance Supervisor Monday to Thursday 7.30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Fridays 7:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. – Telephone: 416-222-3587
• Emergency contacts for weekends and holidays – A list is posted in each building for Tenants

Is the rent affordable?

Our Rents are based on income not exceeding $39,500.00 Yearly.
Veterans, Wives, Spouses, & Widows are our first and only priority and our monthly rents are affordable

What is the difference between the Bachelor and 1 Bedroom units

Only a Bachelor and One (1) Bedroom
We have four (4) Bachelor Buildings (64 units) and four (4) One (1) Bedroom Buildings (77 units)

Tenants responsibility’s
  • Paying rent on or before the beginning of the month by cheque or money order.
  • Keeping unit clean, up to the standard that most people would consider ordinary or normal cleanliness.
  • Repairing any damage to the rental property caused by you or your guests – whether on purpose of by not being careful enough.
  • Tenants are not to make any changes to their unit without getting prior approval from the office.
  • Tenants are not to change the locking system on a door that gives entry to their rental unit unless permission is given by the office – if done, a key must be provided to the landlord.
  • Tenants must allow an annual inspection of their unit to assess any repairs that may be necessary. Failure to do so the tenant has no comeback on the Landlord.
  • Tenants must report any infestations so they can be taken care of by the Landlord as quickly as possible.
  • Tenants may not keep anything in the hallways of the buildings. i.e. furniture, bicycles, walkers, scooters, wheelchairs or floor mats. This is a Fire Regulation and must be adhered to.
  • Tenants are not to use balconies for storage – lockers are provided in units.
  • Report any repair required in your unit to the Maintenance Supervisor – failure to do so may result in a charge to the tenant should the repair worsen
  • A 60 day notice to be given to the office when vacating the premises. When vacating, the tenant must ensure that the unit cleared of all their belongings and no garbage left behind
  • When using the laundry, make sure machine is not overloaded as this causes damage.
  • Tenants may use the laundry facilities in any building if theirs is not working
  • Outside entrances must be kept locked 24/27,  If there is a loss of exterior door key,  a charge  of $40.00 will apply for a replacement key.
  • Loss of interior key please contact Maintenance Supervisor
  • Loss of mail key – contact Maintenance Supervisor – damage to the mail box will incur a cost to the tenant.
  • If replacement key is required there will be a small charge.
Tenants Can Not
• Hang wet laundry in the laundry rooms due to mold
• Smoke in any of the common areas of the buildings and must be nine meters from any outdoor entrances to the building when smoking outdoors
• Cannabis may be used wherever smoking is allowed
• Cannabis cannot be grown in any of the units, common areas or on the grounds
• Bongs are not to be used anywhere outside on the landlord’s property
• Prop open fire doors or outside entrance doors or leave windows open when out
Pet Policy
One Pet per unit
Dogs – no dog over 25 lbs unless a certified Service Dog. Owner must pick up dog’s waste in bag and dispose of it properly
Cats – owner must keep cat food and litter box clean as it attracts cockroaches
Birds – no problem
Exotic animals are not allowed.
Should any pet be a nuisance to the comfort and enjoyment of another tenant the landlord can ask the pet be removed. It is advised that all pets be vaccinated, spayed or neutered so there is no danger to others.
Vehicle Policy
• One tenant owned car permitted in parking lot – must be licensed, insured, in running condition and registered with the office
• There is no visitor parking
• No car washing or repairs to be done on landlord’s property
Garbage, Compost & Recycling

Small Buildings

Black wheeled bins are for garbage
Blue wheeled bins are for recycling – bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, clear plastic food containers – do not put household items in recycling put in garbage
Green wheeled bins are for food and pet waste – must be bagged

Large Buildings

4701 – Two large bins – black for garbage and blue for recycling.
Cardboard cartons are to be broken down before putting in bin. Household items to be put in garbage i.e. toasters, kettles, dishes, etc.

125 Stafford – Two large bins – black for garbage and blue for recycling. Household items to be put in garbage i.e. toasters, kettles, dishes, etc.

Wildlife Policy

Residents are asked not to feed the squirrels as they chew holes in the window screens.
Should a tenant find a nest  on their balcony in the Spring  do not disturb until the young are gone – be kind.  Food also attracts raccoons and skunks.

Finchurst Is Now Managed by Houselink and Mainstay Community Housing

 

As of November 26, 2024, Finchurst became part of Houselink and Mainstay Community Housing (HLMS), ensuring continued affordable housing for veterans and fostering strong, inclusive communities.
